Alexis Rago creates exquisite images that belie the simplicity of means used. The tension generated in working from the imperfect towards a sophisticated visualisation fills the photographs with an air rich in meaning, the images arising being characterised by the absence of reference to time or event. Alexis Rago's photographic practice emerges from a dual training as biologist and painter which has enabled a holistic and incisive vision for exposing the spiritual essence of a scene.
Alexis Rago graduated in biology from Manchester University and fine art from the Institute for Art and Restoration in Florence. He currently lives in a former Methodist chapel in the county of Lincolnshire with his wife the painter Janet Waring and son Florian.
Much of his subject matter is drawn from the area around him and is the result of close observation and familiarity with a given locality, very much in the tradition of painters in former times such as Constable, Rembrandt and Lorrain from whom he has drawn inspiration. He has exhibited widely both here and abroad. Alexis' work can be seen at The Special Photographer's Company, London and The Gallery On The Strait, Lincoln. |
