An early interest in botany, zoology and the decorative arts has come to be reflected in Janet's work, reinforced by her time at Manchester University where she studied botany, graduating with honours in 1980. Having moved to Florence she was tutored in the techniques and methods which gradually were to be adapted during the development of her approach.

Janet soon began exhibiting in Italy in solo and group shows over about a decade before returning to the UK. She now lives and works in a former Methodist chapel exhibiting in public galleries and museums as well as private galleries both in the UK and beyond. Her works are described as beautiful and compelling (City Gallery, Leicester). Janet has many collectors and her works are published by Modernart Editions, New York.

Janet Waring recently co-founded Protoangel Visions which organises special events in the ancient conserved church of St Peter, Normanby by Spital, Lincolnshire, featuring visual arts with music by contemporary artists and distinguished musicians. This initiative is currently receiving backing from the Arts Council of England and The Churches Conservation Trust. Protoangel has a small press publishing limited edition reproductions and books.
