Watercolour
Vice President, Lincolnshire Artists' Society David Morris studied at Leeds College of Art and taught in Hull before moving to Lincolnshire. He was Lecturer in Ceramics at Grimsby School of Art and ran a pottery studio with his wife Avril until they moved to Louth in 1987. His work has been exhibited at the Catto Gallery and the New Academy Gallery in London, St James's Gallery, Bath, Bircham Contemporary Art, Holt, Zillah Bell Gallery, Thirsk and elsewhere. He has shown in open exhibitions with the R.I. at the Mall Galleries and with the R.W.S. at Bankside, as well as in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. He has exhibited in the Laing Art Competitions and in the Singer and Friedlander/Sunday Times Watercolour Competitions. He writes: My paintings are usually topographical landscapes and townscapes - UK, Italy (Venice), France, Spain, and New York. I aim to keep the application of the paint loose and expressive and to ‘do less’. The paint (particularly its translucent qualities) has become a part of the concept of the painting and, often, sets the mood for it. I work in an area between analytical drawing and the excitement of risk-taking, colour manipulation and the contrast of translucent and opaque pigments to indicate place, light and atmosphere. |
